    Privacy Policy

    Who we are

The Grounding app is provided by Kate Ramsay Counselling, based in the United Kingdom. We take your privacy seriously and aim to collect as little personal information as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights under UK GDPR.

    What the app does

Grounding offers free, evidence-based grounding, breathing and mindfulness exercises, a stress self-assessment quiz, an optional private journal, and educational reading. Most features work entirely on your device without an account.

    Information we collect

    • Account data (optional): If you choose to create an account, we store your email address and an encrypted password (or your Google ID if you sign in with Google). This is only used to authenticate you and sync your journal and quiz history across devices.
    • Journal entries & quiz results (optional): Stored securely in our backend, only accessible by you. We never read or share them.
    • Settings: Accessibility preferences and app settings are stored locally on your device.
    • Anonymous usage analytics: We collect aggregated, anonymous information about page visits, device type and country to understand which resources are most helpful. This data does not identify you.
    • AI chat assistant: If you use the in-app chat, your messages are sent to a third-party AI provider (Lovable AI Gateway) to generate a response. Conversations are not used to train models and are not linked to your account unless you are signed in.

    What we do not collect

We do not collect location data, contacts, photos, microphone or camera input, advertising identifiers, or any sensitive health data beyond what you voluntarily enter into your journal or quiz.

    How we use your information

    • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
    • To save and sync your journal and quiz history across your devices.
    • To improve the app based on anonymous usage patterns.
    • To respond to support enquiries you send us.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for marketing.

    Where your data is stored

Account data, journal entries and quiz results are stored in our backend database (provided by Supabase, hosted in the EU). Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Anonymous analytics are processed by our hosting provider.

    Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, or to request account deletion, please contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

    Children

This app is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16.

    Not a medical service

Grounding provides educational and self-help tools. It is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health care. If you are in crisis, please contact Samaritans on 116 123 (UK) or your local emergency services.

    Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
